Embracing Your True Self: A Journey of Healing

The Day I Almost Walked Out in Two Different Lives

Wednesday morning, I almost walked out the door wearing two completely different shoes. I reached into the closet grabbed two white shoes with one hand and slipped my feet into them but when I took a step they felt weird. I looked down and what to you know…

Not a cute mismatch. Not a quirky fashion choice.

A Nike on one foot — bold, ready to move.

An Earth Shoe on the other — grounded, slow, a little crunchy around the edges.

Performance and presence. Hustle and healing. One foot screaming let’s go, the other whispering let’s stay. I caught it right before heading out. Laughed. Shook my head. Swapped shoes.

But the moment stayed with me. Because it reminded me of how often I live like that. Split between identities. Half in old stories, half in who I’m becoming. One part of me trying to keep up. The other part aching to slow down. And isn’t that what healing really is?

Not always a dramatic transformation, but a quiet catching of yourself before you walk out misaligned. A moment of noticing: This doesn’t match who I am anymore. And choosing — gently, intentionally — to step into something better.

 HOPE Method Reflection:

Sometimes Harnessing Optimal Positive Energy looks like catching yourself before the spiral. Before the self-doubt. Before the people-pleasing. Before the mismatched version of you walks out the door wearing someone else’s rhythm.

 Journal Prompt:

What part of your life feels like a “mismatched shoe”?

Where are you walking in one version of yourself — while your soul is quietly asking for something different?
